Huygens (Deconvolution Software)

Description

Huygens is specialized software used to improve the quality—and especially the resolution—of light-microscopy fluorescence images. This is done using mathematical models that compute out distortions caused by the imaging process.

Request / Application

Scientific staff can obtain access to Huygens for use by submitting a software request to software@i-med.ac.at. The software runs centrally on a server system.

Usage

On the user’s computer, a graphical session to the Huygens server is established via RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol). For Windows workstations, an RDP client is already preinstalled. Managed macOS devices (Jamf) can find the “Remote Desktop” app in the Self Service portal.

Registered Huygens users can download the RDP profile at https://huygens.i-med.ac.at (reachable only via LAN or VPN).

Staff members or external users whose workplace is not in MUI or LFU buildings (i.e., the PC is not connected to the MUI/LFU network) must establish a VPN connection to their institution in order to work with the software. For this, please contact your institution’s IT department.

Please note

Huygens can be used both interactively and remotely via batch processing – for example, to use nighttime hours for longer computations.

Note that this service is not available to only one user; resources (especially CPU compute, GPU processing/rendering, and storage space) are shared. Therefore, data that is no longer needed must be removed from the server as soon as possible. Renderings stored on the server for more than 14 days are automatically deleted.
