FWF - Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research

The Austrian Science Fund is the most important funding organization for basic research in Austria. Its extensive funding portfolio ranges from individual projects and career programs to coordinated programs with the aim of setting priorities with international visibility.

Here you will find a short list of the most popular programs at the MUI: Individual projects, ESPRIT, KLIF, Individual projects International.

FFG - The Austrian Research Promotion Agency

The FFG is the central organization for the promotion and funding of research, development and innovation in Austria. The aim of the FFG is to strengthen Austria as a location for research and innovation in global competition. The portfolio ranges from low-threshold programs that facilitate the entry into continuous research and innovation activities to the promotion and financing of cutting-edge research and centers of excellence. In addition to financial support, the FFG offers a wide range of services - for example, it acts as the National Contact Point for the European Union's research programs and as an interface to the European Space Agency.

Here you will find FFG programs that are particularly relevant for MUI scientists: Bridge, Industry-related dissertation, COMET-K1 Centers, R&D infrastructure funding. An overview of all open FFG tenders is available here.

LBG - Ludwig Boltzmann Society

The Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft (LBG) is a non-university research organization with a thematic focus on medicine and the life sciences as well as the social sciences.

The LBG programs Clinical Research Groups and Cancer Mission Labs offer MUI scientists an excellent opportunity to develop their clinical research ideas.

In addition, calls for proposals for Ludwig Boltzmann Institutes (LBI) support excellent research in all disciplines related to health in the broadest sense. Research in the LBIs is carried out in a partnership between research-conducting organizations (e.g. universities) and research-using organizations (e.g. companies, NGOs, etc.)

Christian Doppler Research Association-CD Laboratories

The Christian Doppler Research Association (CDG) promotes cooperation between science and industry. Specifically, this takes place in specially established research units with fixed terms, in which application-oriented basic research is carried out: Christian Doppler Laboratories at universities and non-university research institutions, Josef Ressel Centers at universities of applied sciences.

The maximum term for CD Laboratories is 7 years, with a maximum budget of 800,000 p/a. The decisive factor is the substantial - also financial (!) - involvement of the partner organizations from industry, which assume 40-50% of the project costs.

A new CDG funding line is the Transfer.S2S program, which supports the preparation of university spin-offs. This program does not require the involvement of industry.
