Archive data

The Medical University of Innsbruck recommends filing in the institute's own community on Zenodo.

Zenodo is an interdisciplinary repository for all disciplines. It is operated by CERN and OpenAIRE (EU). You can upload up to 50GB free of charge. Furthermore, communities can be formed on Zenodo to map the research output of projects, institutes or entire institutions. As an MUI member, you can use the Medical University of Innsbruck Zenodo Community to upload your data. These will be formally checked and activated. The research data management team at MedUni Innsbruck will be happy to assist you with any questions you may have about uploading your data.

Data can be uploaded there using the drag & drop function. Persistent identifiers for data records are also assigned there. A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is one of the most common systems for the persistent identification of digital documents. A DOI remains the same over the entire lifetime of a designated object. The DOI system is managed by the International DOI Foundation.

A DOI is a unique combination of characters and consists of two parts, the prefix and the suffix - separated by a slash. After registration by a DOI provider (such as DataCite), an individual prefix is assigned. The configuration of the suffix is carried out by the scientific institution, the publisher or the repository.

Examples of DOIs:

When publishing a scientific article, a DOI is usually assigned automatically, especially in Web of Science or Scopus indexed journals. Publishers that use DOIs as persistent identifiers include Springer, Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, Frontiers, Copernicus Publications, and PLOS.

The filtered search of the global re3data registry allows you to find data repositories that use DOIs as identifiers. General online repositories such as Zenodo or Figshare, which can be used for science-related publications, reports, presentations, videos and other research data, also reserve and assign DOIs.
